inDrive Invests Nearly R10 Million into Drivers’ Earnings

inDrive, the global mobility app that puts drivers in control of their earnings, has invested over R1.3 million each month into driver bonuses across South Africa. Over the past six months, this totals more than R8 million, demonstrating its strong commitment to boosting driver income.

Ashif Black, inDrive’s Country Representative for South Africa, explained that the company’s fare negotiation model and unique commission structure are central to its mission of supporting drivers. Despite rising living costs and many ride-hailing platforms increasing commissions, inDrive is taking a different approach — putting money back into drivers’ pockets.

Black emphasised that this investment reflects inDrive’s “People Before Profits” philosophy and its dedication to creating fairer earning opportunities within the ride-hailing sector. The company’s driver-first strategy aims to improve livelihoods and promote a more equitable gig economy.

InDrive’s in-app bonus system is designed to give drivers clarity and control. Drivers can see their earning goals within the app and, once they reach specific targets, they receive bonuses that help offset commission costs. While these bonuses aren’t cashable, they significantly reduce the fees drivers pay, allowing them to retain more of their earnings.

The bonus system is time-bound, offering drivers flexibility to choose how and when to meet their goals. Whether they drive full-time or part-time, the structure rewards performance and commitment fairly.

This approach is part of inDrive’s broader effort to challenge outdated ride-hailing models and create a system that benefits both drivers and passengers. With millions already invested and plans for more, inDrive continues to lead the way in fostering a fairer, more inclusive gig economy — giving drivers the support they deserve while offering passengers a better, more affordable service.
