Coronation Fund Managers has appointed long-serving executive Aimee Rhoda as its new chief financial officer, filling the vacancy through an internal promotion that reinforces the asset manager’s emphasis on continuity and employee ownership. The company, which oversees roughly R800 billion in assets under management, confirmed that Rhoda assumed the role with immediate effect following the departure of former CFO Mary-Anne Musekiwa.

Rhoda, a chartered accountant who joined Coronation in 2007, has held senior positions spanning finance, tax and remuneration. She most recently led the group’s remuneration and benefits function and has served as a trustee and director across several Coronation-related entities, providing governance and fiduciary oversight. The board indicated that her experience across financial management and corporate governance positioned her to support the firm’s long-term strategy in a competitive asset management market.

The leadership change follows Musekiwa’s resignation in mid-2025 to pursue an international opportunity. Her exit, initially scheduled for later in the year, was brought forward after a transition period. According to Bloomberg, executive stability has become a focus for investment firms facing margin pressure and shifting investor preferences, particularly as global asset managers adapt to tighter regulation and increased competition from passive investment products.

Coronation has highlighted the depth of its internal talent pipeline alongside its transformation credentials. Around 42% of the firm’s assets are managed by experienced black investment professionals, reflecting broader industry efforts to diversify leadership and portfolio management teams. Senior management tenure averages 17 years, with chief executive Anton Pillay leading the group since 2013 after joining in 2006. The appointment signals a continuation of Coronation’s strategy of promoting from within while maintaining operational stability in South Africa’s evolving asset management sector.
