    MTN Appoints Shodunke as Executive

    MTN Group has appointed Shoyinka Shodunke as Executive: IT Core Design and Delivery, with effect from 1 March 2026, strengthening its senior leadership as the group advances its technology and digital transformation agenda.

    Shodunke brings more than 29 years of experience in technology leadership and digital innovation across Africa’s telecommunications sector. His career includes senior roles at several major operators, including Director of Technology at Vodafone Ghana, Chief Technology and Information Officer at MTN Cameroon, Chief Information Officer at MTN Zambia and MTN South Africa, and General Manager: Architecture for the MTN Shared Services Hub in Southeast Africa.

    He currently serves as Chief Information Officer at MTN Nigeria, where he has overseen large-scale digital programmes impacting more than 80 million subscribers. His remit has included managing a complex technology environment supported by more than 350 professionals and driving system-wide transformation initiatives across the business.

    Within MTN, Shodunke has built a reputation for advancing technology-led transformation, with a focus on resilient system design, adaptive digital infrastructure and collaborative innovation models. His work has increasingly centred on the use of artificial intelligence to enhance operational resilience, support scalable innovation and improve service delivery.

    In 2025, he was recognised as MTN Group CIO of the Year for his role in driving one of the group’s largest digital transformation programmes. He also received Tech Champion in Telecoms and CIO of the Year honours at the CIO and C-Suite Awards Africa, reflecting his contribution to MTN’s shift towards becoming an AI-enabled technology organisation.

    Shodunke holds an Advanced Management Programme qualification from Harvard Business School, an MBA from the University of Northampton, a postgraduate diploma in global management from the University of Salford Manchester, and a Bachelor of Technology degree in Mathematics and Statistics from the Federal University of Technology in Nigeria.

    In his new role, he will be responsible for leading the design and delivery of standardised, AI-enhanced IT architectures across MTN’s operations. His mandate will include integrating AI-driven automation, predictive analytics and digital platforms to improve customer experience, operational efficiency and service agility, while accelerating innovation cycles and reducing time-to-market across the group’s footprint.
