ZB Financial Holdings has appointed Arthur K. Matsaudza as chief executive of ZB Bank Limited with effect from 1 October 2026. The listed Harare group said the move is meant to speed up digital transformation and push the bank beyond traditional branch banking into fintech and other digital services. The bank CEO reports to group chief executive Dr Shepherd Tapiwanashe Fungura.
Matsaudza has more than 17 years in banking, fintech and telecoms across African markets. His last role was founding managing director of Omari (also styled O’Mari), Old Mutual’s standalone fintech unit. That business grew from an internal project into a multi-market platform covering digital wallets, mobile money, insurtech and lending. Before that he was Old Mutual’s group executive for digital and data, responsible for digital work across the insurer’s African operations.
Earlier he was head of digital banking and chief technology officer at Steward Bank, and held telecoms jobs that combined mobile networks, mobile money and banking. He has an MBA from the University of Gloucestershire in the United Kingdom and a BSc Honours in computer science from the National University of Science and Technology in Bulawayo.

The hire follows an advertised search. A LinkedIn posting from ZB Financial Holdings invited applications by 21 April 2026 for a bank CEO with at least ten years in financial services and five at executive level, plus an MBA. The job was framed as full accountability for growth, efficiency and large-scale change. Matsaudza’s computer-science background and fintech record match that brief more closely than a conventional credit or retail-banking career.
The group already sells through Smile Cash, SmileLink, the MyZB app, internet and WhatsApp banking, USSD (*225#) and agents. Naming a former Steward Bank technology chief and Old Mutual digital executive suggests the board wants those channels to carry more of the business. Zimbabwe’s banking market is crowded, mobile-money use is high, and customers move quickly between banks, MNOs and wallets. That is the setting Matsaudza is being hired into.
Leadership around the bank job has been fluid. The group website has listed Clement Chiyedzo Kahiya as acting CEO-banking. Elisha Chibvuri has also been described as ZB’s chief executive for banking and was this week named vice-chairman of the Institute of Bankers of Zimbabwe, with First Capital Bank’s Tapera Mushoriwa as chairman. The group has not said in the Matsaudza notice what happens to those titles from 1 October.
ZB Financial Holdings is a public company of 1,001–5,000 staff with interests in retail and corporate banking, treasury, agribusiness, investment banking, life assurance and reinsurance. Its ZSE-listed shares were unchanged at 700.00 ZWG cents on 7 September. Interim results for the half-year to 30 June were released on 1 September. The board said it expects Matsaudza’s mix of banking, technology and telecoms experience to sharpen the bank’s position. He takes over in just over three weeks.
