Vodacom Group has appointed former Johannesburg Stock Exchange chief executive Leila Fourie as an alternate director to chairman Saki Macozoma, with effect from 9 October 2026.
Fourie will serve as Macozoma’s alternate until he retires on 20 July 2027. She will then join the board as a full member.
The JSE-listed telecoms group said the appointment follows a fit-and-proper assessment required by the JSE Listings Requirements. The board said it was satisfied with the outcome and that there were no adverse integrity findings to report.
Fourie led the JSE from 2019 to 2026. Before that she was chief executive of Australian Payments Network and held senior roles at Standard Bank, including managing director of its card division and global director of credit analytics and portfolio management. She has also served on boards in the United Kingdom, the United States and Australia.
She currently sits as an independent non-executive director of Australian payments company Cuscal. Other roles include the United Nations Global Compact, WWF South Africa, the Youth Employment Service, Henley’s advisory board in London, and the IFRS/ISSB sustainability consultative committee. She previously co-chaired the UN Global Investors for Sustainable Development Alliance and chaired Diners Club South Africa. She holds a PhD in economic and financial sciences from the University of Johannesburg.
Vodacom said committee changes linked to her appointment take effect on the same date, 9 October 2026. The company did not publish the full committee list in the extract released with the announcement.
