Nolitha Fakude to continue as chairperson as Anglo American announces several changes

    May 31, 2023By Staff Writer

Anglo American has made several changes to its senior management team and organisation as part of its “next phase of delivery.”

    1. The company is reorganising how it manages its production businesses and the functional expertise supporting them.
    2. Al Cook joined as CEO of De Beers in February, Alison Atkinson took up the role of projects and development director, and Monique Carter joined as people and organization director in May.
    3. Helena Nonka will head the combined strategy and sustainability team, while Richard Price will lead the combined legal and corporate affairs team.
    4. Stephen Pearce will continue as finance director but has expressed his intention to retire later in the year, with the search for his successor already underway.
    5. Anglo’s production businesses will be consolidated into two regions: Africa and Australia, and the Americas.
    6. Themba Mkhwanazi, currently the Bulk Commodities CEO, will be the regional director for Africa and Australia, while Ruben Fernandes will be the regional director for the Americas.
    7. Anik Michaud, instrumental in shaping the Anglo brand and sustainability efforts, will be leaving the company, along with Didier Charreton, who played a significant role in talent development and workplace diversity.
    8. Nolitha Fakude will continue as the chairperson of Anglo’s management board in South Africa and will lead special projects while advising CEO Duncan Wanblad and supporting Themba Mkhwanazi.
    9. The changes will be effective from July 1, and the executive leadership team will consist of Wanblad, Pearce, Cook, Atkinson, Nonka, Daley, Carter, Whitcutt, Price, Mkhwanazi, Fernandes, and McCulley.
