Telkom’s enterprise IT subsidiary BCX will undergo a leadership transition as chief executive Jonas Bogoshi prepares to retire after seven years in the role, with long-serving Telkom executive Hasnain Motlekar appointed acting CEO from 1 March 2026.
Bogoshi’s departure was disclosed in Telkom’s third-quarter trading update and comes as BCX faces sustained revenue pressure. The unit recorded a 9.3% year-on-year revenue decline in the latest quarter and a 5.9% contraction year to date, reflecting constrained enterprise technology spending and weaker demand in key segments.
According to Telkom’s Q3 FY2026 trading update, BCX’s converged communications revenue fell 17.8% in the quarter as legacy voice and copper-based services continued migrating to fibre platforms. IT services revenue declined 10.5%, amid longer sales cycles and cautious capital allocation by corporate clients. The division’s EBITDA margin narrowed to 10.4%, down from 15% a year earlier, underscoring the impact of lower higher-margin services and a challenging operating environment.
Bogoshi joined BCX in 2018 as chief revenue officer before being promoted to CEO in 2019. Telkom indicated that he played a central role in shaping the company’s strategic review and repositioning efforts during a period marked by structural shifts in enterprise ICT demand.
BCX has, however, recorded selective growth in niche areas. Cybersecurity revenue increased 18.4% in the quarter, reflecting heightened demand for risk management and compliance solutions. IT hardware and software revenue rose 19.6%, driven largely by project timing and deal closures rather than broad-based demand recovery.
The broader context remains difficult. Corporate IT budgets have remained under pressure amid slow economic growth, energy constraints and cost containment strategies. Industry data from various market analysts have pointed to modest single-digit growth in enterprise ICT spending locally, below global averages, with cloud adoption progressing more slowly than initially projected.
Motlekar, who will take over in an acting capacity, has been with the Telkom Group for more than 28 years, holding senior commercial and financial roles, including chief financial officer of Telkom Consumer. His appointment provides internal continuity as BCX navigates its turnaround and potential structural options.
Telkom has previously indicated that it remains open to strategic partnerships for BCX, including the possibility of reducing its stake should a suitable investor emerge. The leadership change therefore occurs against a backdrop of strategic uncertainty, operational restructuring and subdued enterprise demand.
