Waze to part ways with employees as Alphabet seeks to streamline operations

    June 29, 2023By Staff Writer
    Neha Parikh - Waze CEO

Google, a subsidiary of Alphabet Inc., has cut jobs at its mapping service, Waze, as part of its efforts to increase efficiency.

    1. The job cuts primarily affected positions focused on advertising at Waze, following the transition to using Google’s advertising technology.
    2. Employees impacted by the cuts are being offered mobility resources and severance options in compliance with local regulations.
    3. In December, Google announced the integration of Waze into its Geo organization, which includes popular products like Google Maps and Google Earth.
    4. The exact number of jobs lost at Waze has not been disclosed by Google.
    5. Google has been implementing cost reduction measures due to a slowdown in digital advertising demand, which significantly contributes to the company’s revenue.
