Kenya selects Dubai-based firm for construction of its first green hydrogen facility

    September 7, 2023By Staff Writer
    Hussain Al Nowais - Chairman

AMEA Power, a Dubai-based renewable-energy company, is set to build a green hydrogen facility in Kenya’s port of Mombasa. This project marks the first of its kind in the East African country.

    1. The initiative is part of a $4.5 billion commitment by the United Arab Emirates (UAE) to enhance renewable energy in Africa.
    2. The plant will begin with a one-gigawatt electrolyzer, which will produce green hydrogen—a clean and sustainable fuel source.
    3. The electrolyzer will utilize renewable energy sources, such as solar and wind power, to split water into hydrogen and oxygen through electrolysis.
    4. Green hydrogen has various applications, including powering vehicles, generating electricity, and supporting industrial processes.
    5. The project aligns with Kenya’s efforts to transition to cleaner energy sources and reduce carbon emissions.
    6. The establishment of the green hydrogen plant in Mombasa will contribute to job creation and stimulate economic growth in the region.
