MTN Group has announced the immediate appointment of David Behr as its new Group Chief Enterprise Business Officer, marking a strategic shift in its leadership structure. The move comes as Africa’s largest mobile operator consolidates its converged solutions and enterprise divisions into a single business unit, aiming to streamline operations and strengthen its corporate offerings across 19 African markets.

Behr brings extensive telecoms experience to the role, having previously served as CEO of MTN Converged Solutions. His background includes leadership positions at Liquid Telecom’s cloud and digital divisions, where he drove product innovation across the continent. The Harvard-educated executive will now oversee MTN’s entire enterprise portfolio, including traditional connectivity services and next-generation solutions like IoT, cloud computing and unified communications.

The restructuring reflects MTN’s push to capture more corporate and government business as traditional voice revenues plateau. By combining previously separate units, the telco aims to present a more integrated suite of digital services to multinational clients and African enterprises undergoing digital transformation. Behr’s mandate includes expanding MTN’s capabilities in managed services and systems integration – key growth areas as businesses increasingly outsource their IT infrastructure.

Industry analysts view the appointment as part of MTN’s broader pivot toward enterprise and fintech services, which now contribute nearly 20% of group revenue. With his blend of technical expertise and commercial acumen, Behr is expected to accelerate MTN’s ambitions in Africa’s rapidly evolving digital services market, where it competes with both telecom rivals and global cloud providers. The leadership change comes as MTN implements its “Ambition 2025” strategy focused on driving digital inclusion across its footprint.
