Edward Kieswetter, the current Commissioner of the South African Revenue Service (SARS), will remain in his position for an additional two years, according to an announcement by the Presidency.

    1. This decision aims to facilitate a smooth leadership transition within the organization and maintain the progress made under Kieswetter’s leadership.
    2. Kieswetter’s initial term was scheduled to end on April 30, 2024, but the extension will allow him to continue implementing the current strategic direction of SARS.
    3. He has been instrumental in improving operational productivity and rebuilding trust in the tax agency following the dismissal of his predecessor, Tom Moyane.
    4. The Presidency emphasized the importance of an orderly transition and the need for continuity in SARS’ ongoing efforts to enhance tax collection and enforcement.
    5. Kieswetter’s extension reflects the agreement between him and President Cyril Ramaphosa, highlighting the President’s confidence in his leadership capabilities.
    6. During his extended tenure, Kieswetter will focus on executing SARS’ strategic objectives while ensuring a seamless transfer of leadership when the time comes.
