Abalobi, a South African community fish catch recording technology company, has been announced as one of the 15 finalists for the prestigious Earthshot Prize.

    1. The Earthshot Prize, launched by Prince William in 2020, aims to recognize and support innovative solutions to global climate challenges.
    2. Abalobi’s groundbreaking solution focuses on solving the overfishing problem and restoring fish populations by involving and empowering local fishing communities.
    3. The company utilizes scalable technology and works closely with small fishing communities to record their catch data, ensuring sustainable fishing practices and improved livelihoods.
    4. The mobile application developed by Abalobi allows fishers to register their catches and provide detailed information about the origin of the fish, enabling transparency in the seafood supply chain.
    5. By using Abalobi’s technology, fishers can demonstrate that they are fishing sustainably, leading to fair prices for their catch and improved market access.
    6. The Earthshot Prize nomination recognizes Abalobi’s efforts in protecting small-scale fishing communities and fostering ocean stewardship, while also generating valuable data for understanding and addressing ocean-related challenges.
