Primedia Broadcasting has appointed Kelvin Storie and Mzo Jojwana as co-chief executive officers, effective October 2026. The broadcaster is moving to a joint leadership model while it tries to protect its radio business and build new revenue streams.

The broadcaster owns 702, 947, CapeTalk and Kfm 94.5, as well as the news brand Eyewitness News. It says the dual structure is meant to protect and grow its radio and content business while it pushes ahead with digital innovation, audience engagement and new sources of revenue.

Primedia Group chief executive Jonathan Procter said Storie’s commercial skills and Jojwana’s content experience would give formal shape to two linked priorities: keeping the company’s strength in broadcast radio and speeding up its digital growth. Procter has led the wider group since August 2021.

Jojwana took over as station manager of 702 in July 2021. He later became chief content officer, responsible for content strategy and audience growth across the group’s stations and Eyewitness News. He holds a qualification from the Gordon Institute of Business Science. He described radio as one of South Africa’s most resilient media platforms and said the new structure would let one leader focus on the core business while digital opportunities are pursued at the same time.

Storie joined Primedia as chief intelligence officer in November 2022 and was later promoted to chief commercial officer. Before that, he was head of media intelligence for South Africa and sub-Saharan Africa at DStv Media Sales and group managing director of Vizeum South Africa. He said his priority would be commercial growth driven by audience insights and new products. He also said clients increasingly want simpler, integrated media solutions.

The appointments follow a series of digital moves by the group. In March 2026, Primedia presented its digital strategy to the industry. In August, its Primedia Plus streaming app became available on Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. In September 2025, Primedia Studios formed a partnership with Opulent Entertainment Group, adding to the company’s video and production work.

These changes come as advertising money moves away from traditional media. PwC’s Africa Entertainment and Media Outlook 2025–2029 forecasts that digital will account for 74% of South Africa’s total advertising spend by 2029. Brands are moving budgets to social media, e-commerce platforms and connected TV, where results can be measured more directly. PwC expects South Africa to remain Africa’s largest and most mature entertainment and media market. It also says generative AI is starting to change how local media companies produce and personalise content.

Radio still reaches more people than most other media in South Africa. However, advertisers now want campaigns that combine audio with video, digital and live events, which is the area Storie will lead. The split structure separates protecting the audience base from building new revenue, two jobs that a single chief executive previously held.

Primedia was founded on 702, the station started by Issie Kirsh, who died in May 2025 at the age of 90. The group also has outdoor advertising, cinema and studio businesses, which sit outside the broadcasting division.
