A leading financial institution is seeking an experienced and dynamic Chief Operating Officer for Risk, Business, and Commercial Banking in Johannesburg. This is a high-profile, full-time leadership role responsible for shaping the future of the bank’s risk management strategy and operations.

The COO will oversee strategy alignment and execution within the Business & Commercial Banking (BCB) Risk function, ensuring compliance with all Group Risk governance standards. They will drive integration of group services, strategy support, and technology initiatives across various business units, regions, and functions, acting as the Business Unit Head for data in BCB Risk.

Candidates should hold a postgraduate degree in Business, Commerce, IT, Risk Management, or related fields, complemented by certifications like PMP (Project Management Professional) and Data Professional credentials.

With over 10 years of experience, applicants must demonstrate a thorough understanding of banking regulations, risk management, and compliance. Proven experience managing multiple projects and leading large teams is essential, along with a strong background in operational controls, data analysis, and change management.

The role requires a strategic thinker with excellent stakeholder engagement skills, capable of building partnerships with senior leaders across the bank’s ecosystem. The ideal candidate will be adept at scenario development, policy formulation, and strategic reporting, ensuring the risk function remains future-fit, sustainable, and aligned with industry best practices.

This is an exceptional opportunity to influence the future of banking risk management at a senior level. If you are a strategic leader with a passion for innovation and compliance, this role offers the platform to make a significant impact.
