Ford has revealed the first-ever plug-in hybrid (PHEV) Ranger, set to launch in early 2025.

    1. The Ranger PHEV is currently confirmed only for the Australian market as part of Ford’s strategy to offer a range of options for its mid-size bakkie in the transition to an emissions-free future.
    2. The Ranger PHEV offers zero-tailpipe emission driving for short trips and hybrid performance for on- and off-road capabilities.
    3. The vehicle is equipped with a 2.3-litre, turbo-petrol EcoBoost engine paired with an electric motor and rechargeable battery system.
    4. It can be driven in pure electric mode for over 45 kilometers, saving on fuel consumption and emissions.
    5. The specific output and details of the electric powertrain have not been disclosed, but it is expected to deliver more torque than any previous Ranger model.
    6. The Ranger PHEV retains the towing capacity of 3,500 kilograms and comes with a four-wheel-drive system, selectable drive modes, and advanced driver safety features.
    7. The vehicle introduces the Pro Power Onboard feature, allowing users to power tools and appliances by plugging them into power outlets in the cargo bed and cabin.
    8. Ford plans to provide towing and payload capabilities expected by Australian customers while offering power for both work and play.
    9. Further details about the Ranger PHEV will be released as production approaches, and it is uncertain if the vehicle will be available in the South African market.
