Great Wall Motor has introduced an updated version of its popular Haval Jolion Pro compact SUV in South Africa, incorporating fresh design elements and advanced features to reinforce its appeal in a competitive segment. The model now benefits from a sporty “smoked black” treatment applied to the grille, window surrounds, and rear diffuser, alongside interior enhancements aimed at elevating both aesthetics and driver engagement.

Floyd Ramabulana, head of marketing at GWM South Africa, described the Jolion Pro as tailored for motorists seeking enjoyment in daily driving, blending dynamism with practicality and contemporary efficiency. Available in five trim levels, the range commences at R392,150 for the entry-level Premium variant, extending to R519,950 for the flagship hybrid, as detailed by GWM South Africa.

Powertrain options begin with a 1.5-litre turbocharged petrol engine delivering 105kW and 210Nm, mated to a seven-speed dual-clutch transmission and front-wheel drive. This configuration, featured in the Premium, Super Luxury, and Ultra Luxury grades, returns a claimed fuel consumption of 8.1 litres per 100km. The S Ultra Luxury steps up to a higher-output version of the same engine producing 130kW and 270Nm, improving efficiency to 7.5 litres per 100km.

The top-tier HEV combines the 1.5-litre petrol unit with an electric motor and dedicated hybrid transmission for a system output of 140kW and 375Nm, achieving the lineup’s best economy at 5.1 litres per 100km. All models include a comprehensive warranty package comprising seven years or 200,000km coverage with roadside assistance, a seven-year or 75,000km service plan, and an eight-year or 150,000km battery guarantee for the hybrid.

Standard equipment across the Pro series encompasses 17-inch alloy wheels, automatic headlights, keyless entry and ignition, dual-zone climate control, a 3.5-inch driver information display, reversing camera, four-speaker audio, cruise control, rear parking sensors, and hill-start assist. Higher specifications introduce LED illumination, adaptive cruise control, traffic sign recognition, lane-keeping assistance, a panoramic sunroof, synthetic leather upholstery, powered driver’s seat, and a 7-inch digital instrument cluster.

The infotainment system, ranging from 10.25 inches to 12.3 inches depending on grade, now supports wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto alongside voice control. Additional upgrades include a 50W wireless charging pad, USB Type-C ports, and a chunkier sports steering wheel with paddle shifters. The HEV flagship further gains a head-up display, heated and ventilated front seats, 360-degree camera, front parking sensors, blind-spot monitoring, and automated parking.

This refresh positions the Jolion Pro against rivals such as the Toyota Corolla Cross and Volkswagen T-Roc, where its generous standard specification and hybrid option provide strong value propositions. South African sales of compact SUVs exceeded 120,000 units in 2024, reflecting robust demand amid rising fuel costs and urban congestion, according to NAAMSA (National Association of Automobile Manufacturers of South Africa). The model’s expanded feature set and efficient powertrains align with consumer preferences for versatile, technology-rich crossovers in the sub-R500,000 bracket.
