INVITATION FOR NOMINATIONS OF A SUITABLE CANDIDATE TO REPRESENT COMMUNITIES WHICH MAY BE AFFECTED BY NUCLEAR ACTIVITIES TO SERVE ON THE BOARD OF THE NATIONAL NUCLEAR REGULATOR (NNR)
The National Nuclear Regulator (NNR) is a regulatory authority established as a juristic person in terms of section 3 of the Nuclear Regulator Act, 1999 (Act No. 47 of 1999). NNR’s mandate is to regulate, monitor and enforce regulatory safety standards for the achievement of safe operating conditions, prevention of nuclear accidents or mitigation of nuclear accident consequences, resulting in the protection of workers, the public, property and the environment against the potential harmful effects of ionizing radiation or radioactive material.
The Minister of Electricity and Energy, Dr Kgosientsho Ramokgopa, MP, has in terms of section 8(7)(a) of the Nuclear Regulator Act, 1999 (Act No. 47 of 1999) called for nomination of a candidate to represent communities which may be affected by nuclear activities to serve on the NNR Board as per government gazette No. 53336 of 2025.
