Visa, a global leader in payments and technology, is looking for a Business Development Director for its Visa Direct platform in Johannesburg, South Africa. This pivotal role involves leading commercialization efforts for Visa Direct across Sub-Saharan Africa, covering everything from opportunity sizing to strategy development and stakeholder engagement.

The director will focus on product and platform development while managing the deployment of Visa Direct solutions. Responsibilities include drafting business requirements, ensuring quality assurance, and coordinating projects across multiple internal teams. The aim is to drive significant market growth in emerging markets by responding to evolving client and consumer needs.

    Key Responsibilities

The role entails managing the full cycle of Visa Direct solution deployment, including articulating the value proposition to stakeholders, mapping the value chain, and overseeing commercial aspects. The director will also define go-to-market plans tailored to specific target markets and solutions, ensuring seamless execution.

Business analysis and project management are crucial, as the director will lead interrelated project tasks and ensure tight deadlines are met. Additionally, the role requires recommending product and platform design improvements for the region, acting as a subject matter expert, and translating local market needs into the global platform development roadmap.

Partner management is another key aspect of the role. The director will identify and coordinate with local accelerator partners to drive solution deployment effectively.

    Qualifications

The ideal candidate will have over 10 years of experience, preferably in bringing new products from concept to commercial launch. A business degree with technical education is advantageous, along with strong project management and business analysis skills. Direct exposure to digital payment solutions is highly valued.

Candidates should possess a strong understanding of domestic and cross-border payments, Visa systems, and the financial services landscape. Knowledge of consumer behaviour in digital environments and experience in the financial institution or technology sectors are essential.

    Skills Required

Successful candidates will demonstrate excellent interpersonal and client management skills, analytical abilities, and organizational prowess. Negotiation skills and solid communication abilities—both written and verbal—are crucial. The role calls for a driven self-starter who is culturally adaptable and capable of thriving in unstructured environments.

This position offers a hybrid work model, with the specific number of days in the office to be confirmed by the hiring manager.
