Toyota is confident in its ability to sell millions of electric vehicles (EVs) and achieve its goal of selling 1.5 million battery EVs by 2026.

    1. Toyota’s CTO, Hiroki Nakajima, stated that “development and production will be ready when there’s demand for 1.5 million units.”
    2. The company showcased its research and product plans for next-generation EVs, including a battery roadmap and more advanced vehicle software.
    3. Toyota’s CEO, Koji Sato, laid out plans to introduce 10 new EV models by 2026 and sell 1.5 million battery EVs annually, as an interim step toward reaching 3.5 million by 2030.
    4. Toyota sold around 38,000 battery EVs in the fiscal year that ended in March, making its EV targets ambitious.
    5. Toyota pioneered electrifying vehicles with the hybrid Prius, and hybrid technology is now spread across Toyota’s lineup.
    6. Toyota plans to roll out at least two new types of batteries within the next few years and is pursuing radical ideas for its production system, including building EV powertrains on wheels that can drive autonomously.
