Foton South Africa marked a defining moment in its local history at NAMPO 2026 (12–15 May), presenting its most ambitious showcase to date at Stand F18. The brand’s Light Commercial Vehicle (LCV), Medium Commercial Vehicle (MCV) and Heavy Commercial Vehicle (HCV) divisions appeared together under a single banner, a visible expression of the unified, end-to-end commercial vehicle offering that Foton is building for South Africa.

The appearance followed a period of significant investment in Foton’s local footprint, anchored by its brand-new assembly facility in Gqeberha. By combining local production capability with Foton’s global engineering heritage, the brand signalled a long-term commitment to the agricultural, logistics, and construction sectors that form the backbone of the South African economy.

The Star of the Show: Auman 560

Launched on Wednesday, 13 May, and making its highly anticipated first sighting in South Africa, the Auman 560 was the undisputed star of the Foton stand.

Engineered for high-efficiency long-haul operations, the Auman 560 is a 6×4 AMT tractor developed by a Foton Daimler Joint Venture Company. It delivered the power, range, and driver-assistance technology that South African fleet operators had been calling for.

NAMPO attendees were the first to witness the capabilities of this heavy-duty contender.

The Auman 560 is a 6×4 AMT Tractor designed for high-efficiency long-haul operations. Key technical highlights included:

    • Powertrain: Equipped with the CUMMINS X13E3-560 engine, a 12,900 cm³ 6-cylinder powerhouse.
    • Performance: It delivers 412 kW (560 HP) at 1800 R/min and a massive 2600 N.m of torque between 1000-1400 R/min.
    • Transmission: Features the renowned ZF TraXon 12-speed AMT (Automated Manual Transmission) for seamless power delivery and optimized fuel economy.
    • Suspension & Handling: The chassis utilizes a ZF-Air Suspension system with 8 airbags to ensure load stability.
    • Endurance: A dual fuel tank system provides a total capacity of 1,060 litres (760L right and 300L left) for extended range.
    • Safety: The vehicle is fitted with ABS, ESC, and a ZF Intarder to complement the engine braking system.

With a Gross Combination Mass (GCM) of 56,000 kg, the Auman 560 was engineered to redefine the heavy-duty segment in South Africa.

Expanding the Lineup: The Foton Miler Lite

Alongside the heavy-duty reveal, Foton also provided a first look at the Miler truck on the LCV side of the stand. While the Auman 560 took centre stage, the Miler Lite represented Foton’s dedication to the light-duty market, offering a glimpse into the versatile solutions arriving in the South African market.

A New Era for Foton South Africa – A Milestone for Local Growth

The showcase at NAMPO 2026 was more than just a display of new hardware; it was a celebration of Foton’s evolving footprint in South Africa. The synergy between the vehicle launches and the established production at the Gqeberha factory signalled a new era of reliability and brand unity for Foton South Africa.

    Foton at NAMPO 2026

Foton South Africa exhibited at Stand F18, NAMPO Park, Bothaville. The full vehicle range, including the Auman 560, Foton Miler, and the existing Auman, Aumark, Truckmate (freight carrier trucks), Tunland bakkie, View taxi and panel van models, was on display from 12 to 15 May 2026. Fleet managers, dealers, and industry media were invited to visit the stand for technical briefings and demonstration opportunities.
