BYD Auto South Africa has officially unveiled the all-new BYD ATTO 2 DM-i, a compact SUV that brings the brand’s latest plug-in hybrid technology to one of the country’s most competitive vehicle segments.

It is designed to make electrified mobility more accessible to South African motorists, the ATTO 2 DM-i combines BYD’s advanced DM-i Super Hybrid technology with its industry-leading Blade Battery, delivering the efficiency of electric driving together with the flexibility and convenience of a traditional combustion-powered vehicle. The result is a practical, intelligent and versatile SUV engineered for modern lifestyles.

Powering the ATTO 2 DM-i is BYD’s latest-generation DM-i Super Hybrid system, which combines a highly efficient petrol engine with an electric motor to deliver a smooth, responsive and economical driving experience. The compact SUV offers impressive fuel efficiency and extended driving range, making it equally suited to daily commuting and longer road trips. Inside, customers can expect BYD’s signature blend of innovation and comfort, including a premium cabin, advanced connectivity features, intelligent driver-assistance systems, a rotating touchscreen infotainment display, keyless access, multiple safety technologies and the renowned Blade Battery, which sets industry benchmarks for safety and durability.

South African customers will be able to choose between two derivatives: the well-equipped ATTO 2 DM-i Comfort and the range-topping ATTO 2 DM-i Dynamic. Both models feature BYD’s advanced DM-i Super Hybrid powertrain, Blade Battery technology, a combined driving range of up to 930 km, keyless entry and start, wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, a panoramic sunroof and a comprehensive suite of safety features. The Dynamic derivative further elevates the ownership experience with premium PU seating, a 50W wireless phone charger, electric adjustment for the driver’s seat, adaptive cruise control, a 360-degree camera system, front parking radars, intelligent driving assistance technologies and electric-folding exterior mirrors, offering customers an even higher level of comfort, convenience and connectivity.

According to Steve Chang, Managing Director of BYD Auto South Africa, the launch reflects the company’s long-term vision for the South African market. He said: “The introduction of the ATTO 2 DM-i is another significant step in BYD’s mission to accelerate the transition towards smarter and more sustainable mobility in South Africa. We understand that many consumers are interested in electrified vehicles but are looking for a solution that fits seamlessly into their daily lives. The ATTO 2 DM-i delivers exactly that, combining exceptional fuel efficiency, advanced technology, outstanding safety and practical everyday usability in a package that is both attainable and exciting. We believe it will become one of the most compelling offerings in the compact SUV segment.”

The ATTO 2 DM-i enters one of South Africa’s most competitive vehicle categories and has been carefully positioned to appeal to first-time new energy vehicle buyers, young professionals, growing families and motorists seeking lower running costs without compromising on comfort or performance.

Nomonde Kweyi, Marketing Director for BYD Auto South Africa, says the model further strengthens the brand’s momentum in the country. She explained: “South Africans have embraced BYD’s growing range of vehicles, and we are excited to continue building on that momentum. The ATTO 2 DM-i introduces a new audience to the benefits of electrified mobility while addressing the realities of everyday South African driving. It offers customers a smart, stylish and practical SUV that fits both their lifestyle and their budget.”

The vehicle will be available in two derivatives, with pricing for the dynamic starting from R449,900 for the entry-level comfort model and extending to R489,900 for the range-topping dynamic model.

With the launch of the ATTO 2 DM-i, BYD continues to expand its local presence and strengthen its position as one of the world’s leading new energy vehicle manufacturers, offering South Africans more choice as the future of mobility continues to evolve. The BYD ATTO 2 DM-i is available from BYD dealerships nationwide from June 2026.
