Volvo Unveils EX60 — Coming to South Africa

Volvo Car South Africa’s (VCSA) electric momentum continues to build. Following a year of significant growth in its electrified lineup—including the EX90 and EX30 Cross Country, alongside updated plug-in hybrid versions of the new XC60 and XC90—the brand now turns its attention to its next all-electric SUV: the new Volvo EX60.

The EX60 will be revealed on 21 January 2026 in a global livestream from Stockholm, Sweden, marking the next step in Volvo’s drive to make electric luxury more accessible to South Africans.

Positioned between the XC40 Recharge and the flagship EX90, the EX60 will strengthen Volvo’s growing electric SUV portfolio, catering to those seeking a balance of performance, practicality, and Scandinavian refinement. Born electric, it continues Volvo’s commitment to sustainable mobility without compromise.

It represents the next evolution in Volvo’s design and technology, promising a longer range than any previous electric Volvo and a groundbreaking user experience. The EX60 is also the first model to launch on Volvo’s latest technology base.

“The upcoming EX60 signals the next chapter in Volvo’s journey toward becoming a fully electric brand,” commented Grant Locke, Managing Director at VCSA. “As South Africa’s EV landscape continues to expand—with more charging points, growing awareness, and an appetite for premium electrification—the EX60 will arrive at the perfect time. It’s designed to bring our latest technology to a broader audience while delivering the range, confidence and everyday practicality that local drivers expect.”

Built at Volvo’s Torslanda plant in Gothenburg, Sweden, production of the EX60 will begin in the first half of 2026, with local deliveries expected in mid-to-late third quarter of 2026.

The announcement forms part of Volvo’s broader electrification strategy in South Africa, which will also see the brand introduce the fully electric ES90 sedan in 2026, further diversifying its local offerings across body styles and segments. With a target of 90-100% of global sales being either fully electric or plug-in hybrids by 2030, Volvo continues to accelerate its transition toward a more sustainable future.
