Since its introduction to South African roads in 1969, the Toyota Hilux has evolved into more than just a vehicle; it has become an integral part of the nation’s motoring heritage. Renowned for its reliability and robustness, the Hilux has served as a trusted companion across farms, construction sites, urban landscapes, and family road trips, securing its status as South Africa’s best-selling bakkie of all time.

To honour this enduring legacy, Toyota South Africa has launched several special-edition Hilux models over the years. The Legend series began with the Legend 35 in 2004, followed by the Legend 40 in 2010, the Legend 45 in 2014, and the Legend 50 in 2019. Each edition has built upon the Hilux’s strong foundation while incorporating enhancements that address the evolving needs of South African drivers.

Now, Toyota introduces the Hilux Legend 55, which will replace the outgoing Legend models and be available until 2026. Customers can choose between two body styles: the versatile Xtra Cab or the family-oriented Double Cab. Both variants maintain the core attributes of their predecessors while incorporating thoughtful design updates and convenience features.

    Interior Refinement

The cabin of the Hilux Legend 55 showcases a dual character of robustness and refinement. Highlights include chrome-branded scuff plates, heavy-duty rubber floormats, and sport seats with embroidered headrests, all emphasizing its limited-edition status while upholding practicality.

    Seamless Connectivity

Equipped with an 8-inch touchscreen multimedia system featuring Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, the Legend 55 ensures that drivers remain connected and passengers entertained. This system is complemented by a high-quality 9-speaker JBL audio setup, delivering rich sound for all journeys.

    Distinctive Exterior Design

The exterior of the Hilux Legend 55 makes a strong impression with exclusive badging, a protective front bash plate, and a secure lockable roller shutter. Double Cab models feature modern touches like puddle light logo projections and a shark-fin antenna. Functional elements, such as a rubberised load box and detachable tow bar, enhance its utility for both work and adventure.

    Power That Delivers

Performance is a hallmark of the Hilux, and the Legend 55 is powered by Toyota’s reliable 2.8-litre GD-6 turbodiesel engine, paired with a smooth 6-speed automatic transmission. With 150 kW and 500 Nm of torque, it excels in efficiency and strength, whether overtaking on highways or navigating demanding terrains.

    Colour Line-up

The Hilux Legend 55 offers a palette of 10 exterior colours, including bold options like Dark Green Mica Metallic and classic shades such as Sand Beige, allowing owners to personalise their bakkie.
