The Kia Sportage has once again cemented its place as the top family SUV, securing the prestigious ‘Family Car of the Year’ title at the 2025 Cars.co.za Consumer Awards. This marks back-to-back victories for the model, with the 1.6CRDi GT Line Plus variant outperforming its closest competitor by a significant 4.7% margin. The awards, held at Waterfall City Park in Johannesburg, evaluate cars based on a combination of expert judge assessments and real-world consumer feedback from nearly 5,000 owners. The Sportage’s consecutive win is a testament to its blend of innovation, safety, and practicality, making it a standout choice for modern families.

Since its launch in South Africa in September 2022, the fifth-generation Kia Sportage has been a dominant force in its segment. Initially powered by Kia’s turbocharged 1.6-litre GDI engine, the lineup expanded in May 2023 with the introduction of a fuel-efficient 1.6-litre turbodiesel powertrain. This move strengthened its appeal in a market where diesel SUVs have become less common. With a reputation for cutting-edge technology, sleek design, and excellent fuel economy, the Sportage has consistently received praise from both critics and consumers. Its strong performance in customer satisfaction surveys further highlights its reliability and long-term value.

Winning this award for the second consecutive year not only solidifies Kia’s growing influence in the South African market but also reinforces the Sportage’s reputation as the ideal family SUV. Its combination of practicality, stylish aesthetics, and advanced safety features has made it a top contender in a fiercely competitive category. As Kia continues to innovate and refine its offerings, the Sportage remains a benchmark in the industry, proving that it is more than just an SUV—it is the perfect companion for families seeking comfort, efficiency, and cutting-edge design.
