JAC Motors set a new record in Chinese bakkie exports in September, shipping 7,054 units to over 130 markets. Sales data for the first three quarters of 2024 show that JAC Motors exported 47,600 units globally, marking a 13.7% year-on-year increase. The company now ranks first among domestic automobile brands, representing over 20% of all bakkie exports from China.

The company’s statement highlights that this achievement underscores not only the market competitiveness of their bakkies but also the confidence and trust that global customers place in the quality and dependability of JAC Motors’ vehicles. “This figure demonstrates the strong growth momentum of JAC Motors’ bakkie range in overseas markets, establishing a solid foundation for future expansion and underscoring the brand’s competitiveness on a global scale.”

At the IAA Transportation 2024 show in Hannover, Germany, JAC Motors debuted its battery-electric T9 EV double-cab, showcasing the innovation of Chinese smart manufacturing. As China’s first battery-electric 4WD bakkie, the T9 EV captured substantial industry interest, underscoring the strength and potential of China’s automotive sector on the global stage.

After 15 years of development, JAC Motors now boasts an annual production capacity of 100,000 bakkies, enabling the company to sharpen its focus on the rapidly growing global bakkie market, driving further sales growth.

Karl-Heinz Göbel, CEO of JAC Motors South Africa, emphasised the exceptional quality of JAC products. “Since launching our new T9 earlier this year, customer feedback has been overwhelmingly positive, with everyone loving our luxurious lifestyle bakkie.”

“Entering our eighth year of trading in South Africa, we achieved a record month in October, retailing 193 units, with T9 sales making up the largest portion of our total sales.”

JAC Motors South Africa is expanding its dealer network to support its sales growth. Recently, Bidvest McCarthy joined, planning to open dealerships in Parow, Menlyn, Groblersdal, Pietermaritzburg and Germiston. The Halfway Group also signed on, opening a branch in Fourways. They join other major groups, including CMH, Group1, and M&Z Motors in Namibia.

“Our dealer network spans over 70 locations across Southern Africa, including Namibia, Botswana, Zambia, Eswatini, Malawi, Zimbabwe and Mozambique. This extensive coverage ensures we uphold global brand standards and deliver a consistently positive customer experience throughout the region,” concludes Göbel.
