Porsche is expanding its iconic 911 lineup with the introduction of a hybrid 911 Turbo set to debut in 2025. This new model will utilize battery cells sourced from Varta, alongside the upcoming electrified GTS, which is expected to hit the market by the end of this year.

While Porsche has no plans for a fully electric 911 this decade, the hybrid variant will enhance the 911’s performance. The announcement was confirmed by Porsche’s CFO during a recent conference call discussing Q3 2024 sales, indicating a strengthened partnership with Varta, including Porsche’s acquisition of a majority stake in V4Drive Battery GmbH.

The lithium-ion battery cells for the 911 GTS and the upcoming Turbo are currently in production, enabling Porsche to broaden its offerings with the hybrid Turbo. Although the existing gas-only 2025 911 Turbo is available in the U.S., the hybrid version is anticipated for the 2026 model year. Concerns about potential price increases accompany the hybridization, as the GTS variant has already seen a price increase of approximately R266,000. The starting price for the gas-only Turbo is around R3.7 million, with the Turbo S Cabriolet priced at R4.4 million. As Porsche prepares for this significant transition, enthusiasts eagerly await the details of the new hybrid technology.
