The Nigerian Federal Government has announced its intention to address the recurring issues of flight delays and cancellations by implementing stricter regulations.

    1. Minister of Aviation and Aerospace Development, Festus Keyamo, made the commitment during a recent visit to Lagos’s Murtala Mohammed International Airport.
    2. The government aims to protect local airlines while also urging them to improve their efficiency and effectiveness in providing services to passengers.
    3. Keyamo emphasized that the government will thoroughly investigate the causes of flight cancellations and delays and enforce relevant laws to ensure accountability.
    4. Lagos plays a significant role in generating revenue for the Federal Airport Authority of Nigeria (FAAN), with 60% of FAAN’s revenue coming from the city.
    5. The new terminal at Murtala Mohammed International Airport, equipped with 60 check-in points, is capable of handling a substantial volume of air traffic.
    6. To optimize revenue generation, airlines operating in the old terminal have been directed to relocate their check-in counters to the new terminal. Additionally, the government has called for the removal of unserviceable aircraft to create space for apron expansion.
