The Africa in Frame Photo Awards, a new regional photography initiative presented by Sony Middle East and Africa has been announced to celebrate Africa’s emerging visual storytellers and give photographers across the continent a dedicated platform to showcase their work. Running from 1 October to 31 December 2026, the competition is the first standalone photography initiative of its kind in the region, bringing together creative talent from across Africa.

Through the competition, photographers and content creators are invited to capture the people, places, cultures and moments that define contemporary Africa. From the continent’s landscapes and wildlife to its fashion, sport, weddings and cultural celebrations, the competition aims to showcase the breadth of Africa’s visual identity through the eyes of those who live and create within it.

Entries will be judged across three categories:

    • Wild Africa: Wildlife, conservation and landscape photography.
    • African Style & Spirit: Photography celebrating African fashion, sport and contemporary identity.
    • Ceremony & Celebration: Weddings and cultural celebrations that capture the people, traditions and moments that bring communities together.

“Africa’s creative talent continues to shape global visual culture, and we are proud to create a dedicated platform where photographers across the continent can share their perspectives,” said Jobin Joejoe, Managing Director, Sony Middle East and Africa.

“Photography has the power to tell stories, challenge perceptions and give people a new way of seeing the world. Through this competition, we want to celebrate the unique perspectives coming out of Africa while supporting emerging creators as they develop their craft and share their visual stories with a wider audience.”

    Three photographers to be recognised

The competition will recognise three winners, each of whom will receive the α7R VI with the FE 24-70mm F2.8 GM, giving emerging photographers the opportunity to further develop their craft with Sony’s professional imaging technology.

The judging process will take place following the close of entries, with winners announced mid-February 2027.

Celebrating Africa through a local lens

The initiative reflects a broader commitment to supporting the region’s creative community and recognising the role that photographers and content creators play in shaping how Africa is seen and understood, both locally and globally.

By creating a platform specifically for African creators, the awards aim to bring greater visibility to the diverse visual perspectives emerging from the continent and to celebrate the photographers capturing Africa on their own terms.

Photographers and content creators are encouraged to review the full competition details, eligibility criteria and submission requirements here: https://www.alphauniverse-mea.com/africa-in-frame-photo-awards.
