This Mandela Day, Binance contributed US$40,000 (about R660,000) to the Falling Forward Foundation’s Mandela Day Healthcare Initiative, delivered in partnership with The Impilo Project, helping ensure that 670 community members received access to medical, dental, mental health and social support services under one roof. The funding closed the final gap needed to make the Community Health Day, held on 18 July, possible.

Every Mandela Day, South Africans dedicate 67 minutes of service in honour of Nelson Mandela’s 67 years of public service. This year, Binance extended that spirit of service through its contribution to a grassroots initiative focused on delivering integrated healthcare to underserved communities.

Binance discovered the Falling Forward Foundation through social media. What caught the team’s attention was not a large campaign or a well-known organisation, but the Foundation’s proven record of creating meaningful impact in the communities it serves. In a corporate social investment environment that can often feel repetitive, supporting a smaller, community-driven organisation aligned with the spirit of Mandela Month.

The Falling Forward Foundation was established to connect corporates, individuals and community organisations with initiatives already making a difference but often lacking the visibility or funding they deserve. Its first major campaign supported The Impilo Project, which has now delivered more than 11 integrated Community Health Days across South Africa.

Rachel Kolisi, Founder of the Falling Forward Foundation, said: “One thing I have learnt is that we can never create lasting impact alone. Binance stepping in to bridge this gap is a powerful reminder of what is possible when purpose and generosity come together. When we stop working in silos and start working together, we create meaningful change for the communities that need it most.”

Larry Cooke at Binance added: “Mandela Day is a reminder that service doesn’t have to be complicated, it just has to be consistent. The Falling Forward Foundation and The Impilo Project have been supporting communities across South Africa for years. Helping close this funding gap meant 670 people received the healthcare treatment they desperately needed.”

The contribution built on Binance’s ongoing work across Africa supporting education, financial inclusion, digital skills and community empowerment programmes. This Mandela Month, that commitment extended to helping ensure healthcare reached those who needed it most on a day dedicated to service and social impact.

As one of the world’s leading blockchain ecosystems with a growing presence across Africa, Binance said it hopes more companies will support the often-overlooked organisations already delivering meaningful change in communities across South Africa, not only during Mandela Month but throughout the year.
