ESG Africa Conference Partners with SAB for Second Edition of Beyond Awards

    August 13, 2024By Staff Writer

The ESG Africa Conference is thrilled to announce its partnership with The South African Breweries (SAB) for the second edition of the Beyond Awards. This prestigious event will honor individuals and organizations committed to advancing sustainable business practices across Africa. SAB will also be the headline sponsor of the ESG Africa Conference, which will be held from October 1-2 at the Sandton Convention Centre. The conference will unite African business leaders to tackle urgent issues in sustainability. This year’s theme, “Moving from Compliance to Impact,” aims to provide practical tools for integrating ESG principles within organizations.

SAB views sustainability as a crucial strategic component, advocating for ethical and environmentally conscious operations. The company’s sustainability efforts focus on four key areas: water, energy, agriculture, and circular packaging, reflecting their commitment to fostering a responsible business environment.

Joshua Low, co-founder of the ESG Africa Conference, stated, “We are honored to collaborate with SAB once again for the second edition of these prestigious awards, which will take place on October 2, alongside the ESG Africa Conference. Our efforts to build an ecosystem of ESG and sustainability professionals have been robust, and these awards are a vital part of our initiatives to increase awareness and education about the benefits of ESG in promoting a sustainable future.”

In 2023, the Beyond Awards attracted over 88 entries across four categories. The awards ceremony, held on October 3, saw more than 200 delegates celebrate the winners, with the event officiated by Honourable Stella Ndabeni-Abrahams, Minister of Small Business Development.

Zoleka Lisa, VP of Corporate Affairs at SAB, commented, “As a company that depends on natural resources to produce products cherished by many South Africans, sustainability is central to SAB’s growth and strategy. We are committed to managing these resources responsibly to ensure a resilient future.”

She added, “SAB is proud to return as the headline sponsor for the Beyond Awards, and we encourage all individuals and organizations who are making strides in sustainability to apply for the Beyond Awards.”

This year’s Beyond Awards will feature five categories:

    • Beyond Large-Scale Champion: Celebrates organizations that have effectively integrated sustainability into their business models with significant and measurable impact.
    • Beyond Small-Scale Champion: Recognizes small enterprises making substantial contributions to sustainability, social responsibility, environmental stewardship, and governance.
    • Beyond Sustainability Report: Awards the most comprehensive, relevant, honest, and engaging sustainability report.
    • Beyond Sustainability Project: Honors the most scalable, sustainable, and transformative environmental, social, and/or governance project in Africa.
    • Beyond African Trailblazer Award: Recognizes outstanding individual contributions to advancing sustainability in Africa, including business leaders, media personalities, civil society, or government officials.

Applications are open to any individual or organization with a proven track record in sustainability. Entry is free, with the deadline set for August 16, 2024. Winners will be announced at an official ceremony on October 2 at the Sandton Convention Centre, starting at 7 pm.
