The chairperson of the Commission for Employment Equity has lamented the slow pace of transformation in the workplace for designated groups, especially for people with disabilities.

    1. Only 1.2% of the reported employees are persons with disabilities, out of 7.2 million employees.
    2. The chairperson said employers should go beyond the 1.2% and demonstrate a real commitment to employ persons with disabilities.
    3. Anyone can become disabled due to an accident or illness, and this should not mean the end of their employment opportunities.
    4. There are misunderstandings about sector targets, but they focus on the Economically Active Population which includes only those working, looking for work and employable.
    5. Groups with a higher proportion of the Economically Active Population should occupy more top management posts compared to groups with a smaller proportion.
    6. There was a presentation at the workshop on the new online EE system with the incorporated amendments and on CCMA case law related to employment equity.
