    SIU probes Eskom fraud after De Ruyter’s allegations

    The SIU is investigating warnings about fraud and corruption at Eskom by former CEO Andre de Ruyter

    1. De Ruyter alleged Eskom was crippled by corruption involving staff, contractors, crime syndicates and politicians
    2. Eskom cancelled R11 billion worth of coal supply agreements and construction contracts as part of corruption crackdown
    3. The SIU investigations at Eskom have expanded beyond employees to include contractors and private companies
    4. The supply of inferior coal that damaged Eskom equipment is under investigation
    5. Damaged conveyor belts at coal power stations to secure repair tenders are also being probed
    6. Construction of Eskom power stations, especially Medupi and Kusile, is under investigation
    7. Over 2,100 criminal cases relating to Eskom have been reported to police, with over 100 arrests since April 2022
