Five South African startups are making waves in Ireland, showcasing their technology innovations aligned with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (UN SDGs).

    1. The startups were selected from a pool of 266 applicants and are part of the winning cohort of the 2023 Irish Tech Challenge South Africa.
    2. The five winning startups are healthcare startups Zoie Health founder Thato Schermer and PeleBox founder Neo Hutiri, human resources startup Foonda Africa founder Vuyo Pakade, biological technology startup AfroBodies founder Dr Benedicta Durcan, and agricultural technology startup Desert Green Africa co-founder Tumelo Chiloane.
    3. By leveraging Ireland’s status as a global technology and innovation hub, these startups have the opportunity to grow their businesses and access top industry leaders and potential funding.
    4. Ireland’s membership in the European Union further provides a gateway for these startups to access the European market and beyond.
    5. The showcase in Dublin not only highlights the achievements of the South African entrepreneurs but also fosters collaboration and knowledge exchange between South Africa and Ireland.
    6. The partnership between the Embassy of Ireland in South Africa, the Department of Science and Innovation, the Technology Innovation Agency, and other implementing partners has created a successful platform for stimulating the entrepreneurial ecosystem and driving progress in the technology industry.
