Amazon South Africa has officially launched its Shop Mzansi initiative, celebrating Heritage Month with pop-up stores in Johannesburg and Cape Town.

The global retail leader has announced that these temporary shops will feature a curated selection of products made by local South African entrepreneurs. This initiative offers customers a chance to engage directly with sellers, experience the products, and discover the stories behind these homegrown businesses.

Following the recent launch of the Amazon.co.za store, Shop Mzansi serves as a dedicated platform for showcasing local products, emphasising Amazon’s commitment to supporting small businesses in South Africa.

Robert Koen, Amazon’s Managing Director for Sub-Saharan Africa, remarked that Heritage Month is an ideal moment to highlight the creativity, craftsmanship, and entrepreneurial spirit of South African creators.

The pop-up stores will be located at the Mall of Africa near Johannesburg and the Tyger Valley Centre close to Cape Town on the following dates:

    • Johannesburg: Mall of Africa — 18–21 September
    • Cape Town: Tyger Valley Centre — 24–28 September

Each location will feature ten selected sellers from Shop Mzansi, offering a variety of South African products. The pop-up experiences will include interactive product demonstrations, storytelling sessions with sellers, and promotional offers, such as incentives for downloading the app and special deals for first-time Amazon customers.

Mpho Modise, head of small business for Amazon South Africa, expressed excitement about bringing the Shop Mzansi experience to life in physical locations. While the digital storefront is a point of pride, these pop-ups allow customers to meet the individuals behind the products and foster stronger connections with local enterprises.
