    Competition Commission takes aim at Uber Eats, Mr D Food

    The Competition Commission has imposed new rules on food delivery platforms like Uber Eats and Mr D Food to promote competition.

    1. Franchisers like Famous Brands can no longer restrict franchisees’ choice of delivery partners. Franchisees can now choose any delivery platform.
    2. The new rules ban national restaurant chains from restricting or dictating the choice of food delivery platform to franchisees.
    3. Food delivery platforms can no longer have parity pricing clauses that restrict restaurants from offering lower prices on other platforms or their websites.
    4. Platforms like Uber Eats and Mr D Food must notify customers that in-store prices may differ from delivery prices and explain why.
    5. Platforms have to disclose that they charge the restaurants commission fees for their services.
    6. The aim is to promote transparency around pricing and choice of delivery partners for restaurants.
    7. The rules are meant to improve competition in the online food delivery space and benefit consumers.
