AstraZeneca is pleased to announce the appointment of David Gibbons as Country President for the African Cluster. David joins AstraZeneca with more than 20 years of experience spanning the pharmaceutical industry, finance, private equity, manufacturing and distribution, and brings a strong track record of leading growth, transformation and multi-market businesses.

Previously, David served in senior leadership roles within the pharmaceutical industry, where he led a multi-country business and oversaw significant portfolio transformation, including multiple oncology launches and expansion into new therapeutic areas such as neurology, ophthalmology and rare diseases. His experience reflects a deep understanding of the healthcare landscape and a strong commitment to improving patient access to innovative care across the region.

In his new role, David will lead AstraZeneca’s business across 39 countries in Africa, with a continued focus on patients, partnerships and long-term health system impact. Under his leadership, AstraZeneca will continue to work closely with healthcare stakeholders across the continent to help strengthen health systems, expand access to innovation and improve outcomes for patients.

“I am pleased to join AstraZeneca as Country President for Africa at such an important time for healthcare across the continent. Africa presents significant opportunities for partnership, innovation and sustainable impact, and I look forward to working with stakeholders across the region to help improve health outcomes for patients and communities,” says Gibbons.

David Gibbons looks forward to continuing AstraZeneca’s commitment to advancing science-led innovation, strengthening healthcare partnerships, and supporting sustainable access to care.
