    Former Prime Minister of Mozambique joins SA bank

    Absa, a prominent financial institution, has appointed Luisa Diogo, the former Prime Minister of Mozambique, as a non-executive member of its board.

    1. Diogo currently serves as the non-executive chairman of Absa Bank Mozambique and holds a non-executive director position on the board of Total Mozambique.
    2. She was the Prime Minister of Mozambique from 2004 to 2010 and previously served as the country’s Minister of Planning and Finance. As the first female Prime Minister of Mozambique, she represented the Mozambican Liberation Front (FRELIMO), the ruling party since the country’s independence in 1975.
    3. Absa highlighted Diogo’s extensive leadership experience in financial services, economics, strategy, and stakeholder management, emphasizing her significant contributions during her tenure on the Absa Bank Mozambique board for over a decade.
    4. Effective from 1 September 2023, Diogo assumes her role as an independent non-executive director of the Absa Group, in compliance with JSE listing requirements.
    5. Diogo holds a B.Econ degree from Eduardo Mondlane University and a Masters in Financial Economics from the University of London.
    6. Diogo will join Absa’s Group Risk and Capital Management Committee (GRCMC), Social, Sustainability and Ethics Committee (SSEC), and the Board Finance Committee (BFC), bringing her expertise to these key areas.

    Absa welcomes the appointment of Luisa Diogo to its board, recognizing her exceptional leadership and extensive experience in finance and economics. With her valuable contributions to Absa Bank Mozambique and her distinguished career in public service, Diogo’s appointment reinforces Absa’s commitment to diverse and accomplished leadership.
