Business Leadership South Africa (BLSA) CEO Busi Mavuso addresses criticism that the business sector enables a dysfunctional government by compensating for its flaws.

    1. The business sector aims to support government in areas where it has capabilities that can assist in delivering services and managing various responsibilities.
    2. Businesses work with government to achieve specific goals that ultimately contribute to economic growth and the success of businesses.
    3. The effectiveness of these efforts depends on the willingness and ability of the government to collaborate, which has sometimes been suboptimal.
    4. Businesses channel their resources where results can be delivered and have contributed positively in areas such as the energy crisis, visa policy, spectrum licensing, and support for the criminal justice system.
    5. The business sector can provide insights into the consequences and risks to the economy in matters such as international engagements, but the responsibility lies with the government.
    6. Businesses are diverse and consist of many firms with different goals, but they are made up of people who are stakeholders in the success of the country as a whole.
