    Former Vodacom executive appointed to lead struggling Cell C

    Cell C appoints Jorge Mendes as new CEO, effective July 2022

    1. Mendes was previously Chief Consumer Officer at Vodacom with over 25 years’ industry experience
    2. The appointment comes during a pivotal time as Cell C faces increasing competition and seeks to restore its position in the industry
    3. Cell C finalized a R7.3 billion debt recapitalization plan in September 2022, agreeing to repay lenders 20 cents per rand of debt
    4. Cell C reported a 1% drop in subscribers to around 12.8 million for the half year ending June 2022
    5. Mendes says his focus will be on delivering a “true customer-centric approach” and becoming the brand of choice for South African consumers
