Kgathatso Tlhakudi, the Director-General of the Department of Public Enterprises, has been dismissed following an inquiry into a complaint against him.
- The inquiry, led by Minister Ronald Lamola, looked into whether Tlhakudi violated his employment contract.
- Advocate Ramawele SC, the chairperson of the disciplinary, found that Tlhakudi breached his contract, leading to his dismissal.
- The Department of Public Enterprises (DPE) will be implementing the decision and focusing on advancing reforms for State-owned enterprises (SOEs).
- The DPE aims to create the National Transmission Company, establish an infrastructure manager within Transnet Freight Rail, and introduce private partnerships for the Durban Container Terminal.
- Tlhakudi’s application for leave for a direct appeal against a Labour Court decision to uphold his suspension was dismissed by the Constitutional Court.
- The DPE criticized Tlhakudi’s conduct, accusing him of avoiding accountability, peddling lies, and attempting to undermine the DPE’s work. They emphasized that he was involved in the process of evaluating interests for the sale of shares in South African Airways to the Takatso consortium.
