Discovery Bank has launched a dedicated UK visa application centre at its Discovery Store in Sandton, Johannesburg, in partnership with VFS Global, aiming to streamline overseas travel for its clients. The initiative is designed to simplify the UK visa process for Discovery customers, reflecting growing outbound travel demand among affluent South Africans.

The UK remains the most popular international destination for users of Vitality Travel, the bank’s travel rewards platform. Discovery said more than 16,000 Vitality Travel members and their families flew between South Africa and the UK on discounted fares in 2025, highlighting sustained appetite for long-haul leisure and family travel despite currency volatility and higher global airfares.

The new facility offers appointment-only access within the Discovery Store, positioning the location as a consolidated service hub. The group has increasingly integrated lifestyle services, health assessments and financial offerings into physical store formats to deepen client engagement and loyalty. The addition of visa processing builds on that model by linking banking, travel rewards and administrative services under one roof.

All Discovery Bank clients can book appointments at the centre, where VFS Global manages document submission and biometric enrolment for UK visa applications. Purple-tier clients receive additional benefits, including discounted premium services and access to a mobile visa service in major metros such as Johannesburg, Cape Town, Durban and Pretoria. However, the bank emphasised that visa decisions remain solely under the authority of UK Visas and Immigration.

VFS Global, which operates visa processing centres for multiple governments worldwide, described the partnership as a first-of-its-kind offering within a bank branch in South Africa. International travel volumes have rebounded strongly since 2023, with visa processing capacity emerging as a bottleneck in several markets. Financial institutions are increasingly seeking partnerships that reduce friction in cross-border mobility for high-value clients.

To access the service, clients must first complete the official UK visa application via the UK government website and obtain a reference number before booking through the Vitality Travel platform. Walk-ins are not permitted.
