Lamborghini is gearing up to introduce more off-road supercars, including all-terrain variants of the Temerario and Revuelto models. Under the Audi corporate umbrella, Lamborghini has shifted from its wild roots of the Countach era to a more stable and innovative approach, marked by a record 10,687 cars delivered in 2024.
The company’s success in recent years has allowed it to explore niche models, such as the Huracan Sterrato, with a follow-up based on the Temerario already all but confirmed. Federico Foschini, Lamborghini’s head of sales and marketing, indicated that the brand plans to release even “crazier” models, hinting at off-road derivatives akin to the Sterrato.
While the Urus SUV has already received a rugged ST-X makeover, which, however, never reached production, Foschini noted that the Urus remains the most logical candidate for a go-anywhere special edition. The demand for adventurous projects like the Sterrato has encouraged Lamborghini to delve deeper into this expanding niche, as they continue to seek innovative concepts beyond traditional road-focused supercars.
Additionally, Lamborghini has not dismissed the idea of a rear-wheel-drive version of the Temerario. The larger Revuelto has already birthed the high-performance Fenomeno, which is now the brand’s fastest and most powerful production vehicle.
In terms of sustainability, Lamborghini recently confirmed that the second-generation Urus will retain a combustion engine with a plug-in hybrid setup, countering previous plans to transition fully to electric. Similarly, the Lanzador, initially announced as an EV-only model, is now expected to launch as a PHEV in 2029, a year later than originally scheduled.
For low-volume brands like Lamborghini, hybrids are becoming essential to meet stringent emissions regulations in Europe and beyond. Known for their ability to create thrilling hybrids, Lamborghini is well-positioned to navigate the complexities of modern automotive regulations while continuing to push the boundaries of performance and innovation.
