The African Development Bank (AfDB) and Google have entered into a partnership to advance digital transformation across Africa. The collaboration was formalized through a Letter of Intent signed during the Global Africa Business Initiative at the United Nations General Assembly in New York.

    1. Both organizations share a common goal of leveraging emerging technologies, enhancing infrastructure, and developing talent and skills in Africa to accelerate digital progress.
    2. The AfDB has a track record of investing in broadband infrastructure, promoting favorable policy environments, nurturing digital skills, and supporting technology startups. Over the past decade, the bank has invested $1.9 billion in projects aimed at fostering digital evolution.
    3. Google has been actively involved in Africa’s economic growth and digital transformation. It has made significant investments, including the establishment of a major submarine telecommunications cable, and has been committed to promoting talent development, innovation, infrastructure, and regulatory advancements.
    4. Through this partnership, Google will provide technical assistance to support entrepreneurs and small and medium-sized enterprises in digitizing their businesses. This assistance will encompass areas such as securing financing, mastering digital marketing, and advancing private sector development.
    5. The collaboration recognizes the transformative potential of advanced technologies like artificial intelligence (AI) and aims to ensure that Africa can fully benefit from them. It emphasizes the importance of collaboration in building an inclusive digital future for all, leaving no one behind.
    6. The partnership between the AfDB and Google represents a significant step towards driving digital innovation, economic growth, and job creation in Africa. It highlights the shared commitment of both organizations to harnessing the power of technology for sustainable development on the continent.
