Apple has increased the pricing for iCloud subscriptions in South Africa, with a 13% rise for the 200GB tier and a 33% increase for the 2TB tier.

    1. The 50GB tier remains unchanged at R15/month, while the free 5GB plan continues to be available at no charge.
    2. The exact reasons for the price increases are unclear, as Apple has not issued an official statement. Speculation suggests factors such as the depreciation of the rand against the dollar and euro may have contributed.
    3. This follows Apple’s previous price increases for Apple TV+ and Apple Music in October, which rose by 47% and 16.7% respectively.
    4. The new pricing places iCloud as a more expensive option compared to Google’s cloud storage offerings in South Africa.
    5. Price increases for iCloud have also been implemented in other countries, including the UK, Poland, Romania, Saudi Arabia, and Turkey.
    6. The 2TB tier on Google’s cloud storage is R40/month cheaper than on iCloud.
    7. These price changes highlight the competitive landscape of cloud storage services and the differing costs across regions.
