Ford has revealed the first-ever plug-in hybrid (PHEV) Ranger, set to launch in early 2025.
- The Ranger PHEV is currently confirmed only for the Australian market as part of Ford’s strategy to offer a range of options for its mid-size bakkie in the transition to an emissions-free future.
- The Ranger PHEV offers zero-tailpipe emission driving for short trips and hybrid performance for on- and off-road capabilities.
- The vehicle is equipped with a 2.3-litre, turbo-petrol EcoBoost engine paired with an electric motor and rechargeable battery system.
- It can be driven in pure electric mode for over 45 kilometers, saving on fuel consumption and emissions.
- The specific output and details of the electric powertrain have not been disclosed, but it is expected to deliver more torque than any previous Ranger model.
- The Ranger PHEV retains the towing capacity of 3,500 kilograms and comes with a four-wheel-drive system, selectable drive modes, and advanced driver safety features.
- The vehicle introduces the Pro Power Onboard feature, allowing users to power tools and appliances by plugging them into power outlets in the cargo bed and cabin.
- Ford plans to provide towing and payload capabilities expected by Australian customers while offering power for both work and play.
- Further details about the Ranger PHEV will be released as production approaches, and it is uncertain if the vehicle will be available in the South African market.
