Grindrod, a leading logistics and freight company headquartered in Durban, has announced the appointment of Kwazi Mabaso as its new Chief Executive Officer, effective 1 December 2025. Mabaso succeeds Xolani Mbambo, who will assume the role of Chief Financial Officer at Kumba Iron Ore on 1 January 2026.

Following an extensive search, Grindrod’s board opted to promote Mabaso from within, recognising his proven leadership and deep industry expertise.

Currently serving as CEO of Grindrod Terminals, Mabaso brings more than 24 years of experience in logistics, mining, and operations management across sub-Saharan Africa. His strategic oversight has been instrumental in driving operational efficiency and leading key mergers and acquisitions in 2025, strengthening Grindrod’s regional footprint. He holds a Bachelor of Science in Engineering and a Postgraduate Diploma in Business Administration, equipping him with a strong balance of technical and managerial expertise.

Before joining Grindrod, Mabaso held senior roles at Transnet, where he managed major terminals and logistics corridors—experience that honed his ability to navigate complex operational environments. His leadership at Grindrod Terminals has been defined by innovation, sustainability, and consistent performance, earning him the full confidence of the board.

Mabaso’s promotion underscores Grindrod’s commitment to continuity, internal talent development, and long-term growth. With a focus on expanding logistics networks, improving service delivery, and leveraging technology to enhance efficiency, he is well positioned to lead Grindrod in a highly competitive market.

As Mabaso steps into his new role, Grindrod anticipates a seamless leadership transition and continued success under his guidance.
