The Standard Bank Group has appointed David Hodnett as the new Chief Executive Officer of Standard Bank South Africa Limited (SBSA), pending regulatory approval. Hodnett, who currently serves as the Group’s Chief Risk Officer and heads its Corporate Affairs portfolio, brings over 30 years of leadership experience and extensive institutional knowledge to his new role.

Thabani Ndwandwe will take over as the Group Chief Risk Officer, succeeding Hodnett, and will also continue his responsibilities as the Chief Risk Officer for SBSA. With two decades of experience at the Group since joining in 2004, Ndwandwe has demonstrated expertise in managing risk portfolios across various jurisdictions.

Additionally, Lungisa Fuzile’s interim role as CEO for Africa Regions and Offshore has now been made permanent.

Standard Bank’s group CEO, Sim Tshabalala, highlighted that these appointments showcase the depth of the group’s leadership succession pipeline. He noted Hodnett’s extensive experience in South Africa’s financial services sector and his exceptional leadership capabilities. Tshabalala also commended Ndwandwe and Fuzile for their proven records of accomplishment within the organisation.

These leadership changes align with Standard Bank’s ongoing commitment to executing its strategy while nurturing strong internal leadership capabilities.
