MTN South Africa has announced a significant leadership change. Ferdi Moolman, who was a key driver behind MTN’s expansion in Nigeria, will now become the new CEO of MTN South Africa. He replaces Charles Molapisi, who is stepping down after serving as CEO since 2022. Molapisi will continue to be involved in the company’s technology and AI projects, focusing on accelerating the adoption of AI across the business.

At the same time, Yolanda Cuba, currently the vice president for Southern and East Africa at MTN Group, will step down from the group executive committee to become the deputy CEO and an executive director of MTN South Africa. The company says these changes are aimed at boosting growth and increasing returns in the local market.

MTN also revealed that they are preparing for the upcoming retirement of their South African chairman, Mike Harper, next year. Sindi Mabaso-Koyana will succeed him as chairperson in early 2026.

The company is making other senior leadership adjustments. For example, Tsholofelo Molefe, the group’s CFO, will now also oversee mergers and acquisitions. Kholekile Ndamase will report directly to Molefe on M&A matters. Other executives will take on new roles, such as Ebenezer Asante, who will now focus on operations in several African countries, and Karl Toriola, who will also oversee Francophone Africa.

Furthermore, Mazen Mroué, the current group CTO and head of digital infrastructure, will focus on expanding fibre and data centres across Africa, as well as working on satellite and network sharing projects. Selorm Adadevoh and Chika Ekeji will also take on broader strategic roles, while Paul Norman will retire in 2026.

CEO Ralph Mupita said these leadership changes are designed to support MTN’s long-term growth plans. He highlighted the depth of talent within the group and expressed confidence that these moves will help the company continue to deliver value beyond 2025.

Despite the ongoing organisational shifts, MTN remains committed to strengthening its position in the telecom industry and delivering innovative services across Africa.
