Andile Sangqu has been named the new chairperson of Transnet.
- Sangqu is a former top executive at Anglo American SA and the Minerals Council of South Africa.
- He is one of nine new members to join the struggling state-owned entity’s board.
- The new appointments are seen as a way to strengthen Transnet’s corporate governance.
- The new board members will join Popo Molefe and Sydney Mufamadi who have been reappointed to the board.
- Transnet CEO Portia Derby and group chief financial officer Nonkululeko Dlamini will also remain on the board.
- The new appointments are a sign of Minister of Public Enterprises Pravin Gordhan’s confidence in Transnet.
- The new board will be tasked with turning Transnet around and making it a more efficient and effective company.
