Knorrox We Give A Bull – Gauteng Launch

Across Gauteng  and South Africa at large, many families face a daily reality often hidden from view: stretched meals, portions reduced so children can eat and communities relying on shared kitchens to make limited food go further. While food relief remains vital, the larger crisis is hidden hunger and the lack of essential vitamins and minerals in everyday diets which silently undermines growth, learning, immunity and long-term wellbeing.

It is within this context that Knorrox’s We Give A Bull movement has taken shape. Guided by its long-term commitment, Serving for Tomorrow, the initiative forms part of a year-round effort to combat malnutrition, strengthen local food systems and give back to the communities that have helped shape the brand’s legacy.

Through We Give A Bull, Knorrox recognises and supports everyday community heroes who are quietly feeding, organising and protecting vulnerable families across South Africa. While hunger is often measured by food shortages, the deeper crisis lies in the quality, consistency and dignity of meals that families can access, a challenge commonly referred to as hidden hunger.

Over the years, Knorrox has supported grassroots feeding initiatives, school nutrition programmes and community kitchens through fortified meals, skills development and infrastructure support designed to strengthen sustainable feeding ecosystems. Through partnerships supporting school nutrition programmes, Knorrox has contributed to training food handlers in culinary preparation, nutrition and food safety practices, improving the quality and consistency of meals served to learners while empowering food handlers with professional skills and recognition within their communities.

Beyond schools, the initiative has supported community kitchens that allow communities to grow and prepare their own meals, reducing reliance on emergency food relief while strengthening local food security.

One example of this impact can be seen through community leaders like Mama Sindi in KwaDukuza, KwaZulu-Natal. For years, she has run a community kitchen that feeds families facing food insecurity, often working with limited resources. Her work is not driven by visibility or charity, but by responsibility  the daily commitment to cook, organise and nourish her community in circumstances where food access is never guaranteed.

While food relief remains essential, We Give A Bull focuses on long-term nourishment that restores dignity and strengthens community resilience. The initiative is not positioned as a traditional charity programme but as a platform designed to strengthen and celebrate existing community-led solutions by standing alongside those who are already taking action.

“Hidden hunger is one of the most urgent but overlooked challenges facing many South African communities. Through We Give A Bull, we want to recognise and support the people who are already showing extraordinary care by nourishing those around them. This initiative is about strengthening the incredible work communities are already doing and helping ensure that nourishment is delivered with dignity and consistency,” says Thobeka Goba, Marketing Manager for Knorrox at Unilever.

As the initiative expands its focus across Gauteng, Knorrox is calling on communities to help identify and nominate local food heroes, individuals who cook for communities with limited ingredients, coordinate feeding programmes and provide stability through consistent nourishment and care.

Open Call: Nominate Your Local Community Heroes

Knorrox invites the public to nominate community heroes who:

    • Cook for communities using limited resources
    • Run feeding programmes or early childhood nutrition support
    • Provide consistent, balanced nourishment and care

    How to Nominate

Submit nominations via the Knorrox Brand Page on social media, including nominee details, the work they do and  the impact they make.

    Selected heroes will receive:

    • Fortified Knorrox products
    • Nutrition and culinary training
    • Educational assets
    • Ongoing empowerment support

By recognising and supporting these community heroes, Knorrox aims to amplify grassroots feeding efforts, inspire wider community participation and contribute to sustainable nourishment systems that extend far beyond individual meals.
